I have done many, many things----all legal! My first "real" job was at the Abilene Police Department and what an eye-opening experience. While working I attended Hardin-Simmons University for 4 years. After a promotion, I was to finish my final few courses in the evening. Well, that didn't happen. So I am still a few courses short of my degree. I then lived in Lubbock for about 3 years and worked for DPS. Then came back to Abilene and worked again at the APD. After marrying a policeman (and while nepotism was still in existence!)I had to quit. So I went to work at the TX Department of Hwys and Public Transportaion. I quit after our daughter was born to have a chance to rear her and have never regretted that decision. After our daughter (Courtney) was in middle school, I went to work at the AISD and worked there until 1995 when it became clear that it was necessary to be home and help my parents as my mother was in the final stages of cancer. While I was working at the AISD, the opportunity opened up for Jack to enter politics on a local level. He ran for Sheriff, won, and retired from the APD. He is now retiring from the Sheriff's Dept. So as you can see, I have never strayed far from Abilene or law enforcement. Retirement will be a good thing.

Wonderful times, wonderful teachers, wonderful friends. I always thought I was the only person on earth who thoroughly enjoyed my school years but after reading all of "our" stories, it seems to be a mutual feeling. I remember 19 cent a gallon gas, open campus lunches, slam books, drive-in theaters, the Paramount on Friday nights (guess that was junior high), fish sandwiches at Burger Chef, "sneaking" out to our front yard in the middle of the night, the Abilene Swim Club, Mr. McKinnon's DAILY history test with 4 questions, lots of parties,and a little hanky-pank--all in fun.
